Kachiguda Ka Raja – Ganesh Maharaj

A very cute looking ganesh's idol, very subtle colors used on it.

The very peculiar thing about this idol was that the Garland around the idol was made using 1 Lakh (100,000) cotton wicks used in every hindu household to light the deep or deeya (earthen lamp). Admire the cotton wicks garland made with 100,000 cotton wicks in the picture below. The garland has been zoomed in to provide a better visibility.

Black Marble Ganesha

This affluent looking ganesha seems to be made out of Black Marble. The gleam and the shine is incomparable to none around. Even in the darkness of night, the Charismatic Idol was very very much visible and stood out of the crowd.

Live in action... II

Live in action... the immersion ceremony

Live in action... the immersion ceremony. Right before the Ganesha's Idol is lifted up by the crane to immerse it in Hussain Sagar.

Hussain Sagar has many names, technically it is called as Hussain Sagar Lake. Picnickers & people thronging the lake call it Tank Bund and is pretty famous with that name, as compared to being called as Hussain Sagar Lake or Hussain Sagar.

A person speaking in general Hyderabadi slang would call it Tangbund. Off late haven't really heard people refer to Hussain Sagar Lake as Hussain Sagar or Hussain Sagar Lake. It is generally called as Tank Bund and thats it. That is the rule, call it Tank Bund.

Come Ganesh Chaturhi or Festival of Lord Ganesha and the name of this lake is rechristened as "Vinayaka Sagar". Then once this festival gets over, the name is reverted back to Tangbund as I would also love calling it.

Same seems to be the fate of Osman Sagar, popularly known as Gandipet. Himayat Sagar being the poorer cousin of Gandipet and the least frequented one hasn't yet achived itself a nickname. The day doesnot seem to be far away, when Himayat Sagar would also be rechristened as "something"

Gleaming Lord Ganesha

Gleaming Lord Ganesha seen on Tank Bund Road.

Musically Inclined Ganesha

Following the theme of Musically Inclined Ganesha, this idol seated atop a pair of tabla's was a real pleasure to the eye. Watching this mammoth ganesha idol immersed was a scene never to be missed.

Decorated Ganesha

Decorating the trailer/carrier creatively seems to be the in-thing this season. Notice the beautiful decoration around the ganesha's idol.

Ganesha from Padma Rao Nagar

Ganesha from Padma Rao Nagar. My pals Roby, Bappi, Naresh, Nasir, Rahmat & Vinod were the main players behind organizing this whole thing and have been quite successfull in doing it.

Kudos Guys!!! (and do thank me for posting this image here)

Bling Bling Ganesha — Bejeweled

Bling Bling Ganesha — Bejeweled and all decked up. A charismatic idol with full of charm and beauty.

Corporate Ganesha

Notice the intrusion of corporates into religious festivities, this can be termed as Commercialization of Festivals and this festival being pretty famous, the corporates could not control themselves and had to venture into sponsoring the festivites and etc, but at a cost.... displaying of their brand all over the place including the trailer the ganesha would be carried on.

Thank god, they do not expect people to stick all the posters all over the idol, just to make sure that people do not miss out their brand.

Check the highlighted area, also zoomed in for better visibility. The Tag of !dea could be seen there.

Lord Ganesha with Great Lord Shiva

A very beautifully crafted idol, that caught my eye on the way back home. Could not control my shutter box eagerness and has to take a U-turn to capture this beautiful idol on camera.

Dum Laga Ke!!!

Towing of Ganesha's Idol seems to be the latest fad of the season, seen these lively group of youngsters pulling the decked up chariot of the Lord as they take him on journey from the Pandal to Hussain Sagar Lake for immersion.

Not even for a second did I get a chance to notice the sense of tiredness on the face of these people and upon enquiring, I was given to understand that these people have been pulling the decked up chariot of the lord for the past 4 hours and covered about 16 Kms.

May god bless them all.

God Of Poor – II

Continuing with the series of God Of Poor.

This also falls under the same category and I would not detest to say "God of Poor resembles the Uber Posh God of Rich."

Lonely Ganesha

Lonely Ganesha atop a lorry without any devotees around, all the devotees were busy dancing on the streets to the beat of the drums. Festive rings in a lot of things including bread and butter for the drummers or the Band Waala's.

Musical Ganesha

Lord Ganesha, with a little bit of inclination towards music.

What a charismatic idol

Bejeweled Ganesha atop decked up trailer, ready to be immersed. What a charismatic idol, the charisma seems to be incomparable.

The God of Poor resembles the Uber Posh God of Rich.

What a coincidence!

The God of Poor resembles the Uber Posh God of Rich. What matters most is the excitement with which the procession is taken out and this little boy awry of the situation around and unaware about being photographed, has that innocent face of a devoted devotee. The boy looks the other way as his father pulls the Rickshaw to proceed for immersion of the Idol.

Business is Business

Business is business at any time of the day. A cute little Rag Picker was back to work in the murky waters of Hussain Sagar Lake, collecting the best of available stocks in there. Notice the bag in his hand, which is used to stock up all the collectables and souvenirs collected as a memorabilia of the festive season.

Media Savvy Devotees

Ganesha atop an Indica. Notice how people are so so media savvy, that at the drop of a hat they all assemble together for the photograph, expecting their 2 cents of publicity. These people haven't really allowed me to take the full close-up shot of the Lord. :D

Ganesh atop a Maruti Gypsy

Ganesha atop an open top Maruti Gypsy. Notice the Panasonic Mixer placed before Ganesha. This was one of those smallest Idol's taken out for immersion with utmost pomp and gaiety.

Ganesh Chaturthi – The Festival of Lord Ganesha

As the festive fever takes over the whole of Hyderabad City, Mission Hyderabad gets to showcase a few of these festivites and celebrations here on Mission Hyderabad.

Mission Hyderabad promises and would really see to it that, we as Hyderabadi's take you real close the festivities and the happenings. We take all the pains to get these to you. Its not something about lauding about oneself, but the time and patience it takes to gather these is really commendable and Mission Hyderabad doesnot expect a lot from you all except a few bricks and bats from your side.

Jai Ganesh, with these few words would we love to invite you on to a journey that takes you through the lanes of hyderabad, bring you close to the idol's that have really caught MH's eyes.

We love the way people take out the processions, the color and the fanfare involved.

Thanks to one and all, who have supported us with this initiative.

Special thanks to the Police Department, who have been very very supportive in this. They have explained and adviced MH as to what needs to be done and what needs to be avoided when capturing an occassion, especially when MH is behind the lens.

Thanks to all the Cops at Gandhi Nagar Outpost Control Room on the Tank Bund Road, for the advice. Thanks a lot again and again and again.
